THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT AND THANK YOU FOR REALIZING IT!
I once had a local self published author talk to my (little local) writing group about how he was told by a then big-time award winning author he met 10 years ago that he needs to move to NY and pay an agent in order to get published *cough*
Of course I corrected him and his response was "well, no offense, but I'd rather listen to the published writer..." It was sad that he wouldnt listen. Things change so much so fast in publishing, ten years can be a life time! So thank you for your honesty! I just self- published a contemporary romance, and would like to add that listening to the advice of already successful authors has not been particularly helpful. Someone who already has a huge following and then switches to self-publishing is in a far different place than a newbie with three fans. Four, including good old Mom. I've followed you long enough to know that your path to success was not a straightaway, but full of twists and turns and roadblocks, and paved with sex toys. You can't tell someone else what will work for them. But keep writing, and don't give up, is always good advice! Tammy J.
