A post-Mother's Day message

It's been a bumpy weekend dealing with divorce drama. I'm staring at the blank screen trying to come up with something funny or inspirational to blog about, and I've gotta admit, I've got nothing in me.

Hey, look – a dirty joke I didn't even intend. It's nice to know the naughty innuendos come so naturally. Speaking of coming naturally...

Never mind. Sometimes it's just too easy.

Now that I've embarrassed my mother with my filthy jokes, I want to take a moment to thank her publicly for being the most amazing mom anyone could ever hope for. Her humor, beauty, support, and unconditional love make me want to be a better person every single day. She's the wisest most amazing woman I know, and every good quality in me I owe to her and my dad.

Thank you, Mom, for being my rock and my inspiration. I'm truly the luckiest daughter on the planet.

If any of you want to argue and tell me why YOUR mom is the best, feel free to share. I'll know you're wrong, but I'm willing to hear you out.

Happy (belated) Mother's Day, everyone.

Can't argue with you. My own mother hasn't been so great, though much of what I am I still owe to her.

My mother-in-law, on the other hand... well, she's AWESOME! I missed her a whole lot yesterday, too. We moved to Georgia in January, and for three years prior we were both in the same place on Mother's Day, and the hubby (and my two kids) made us a massive breakfast in bed those mornings, while we gabbed and "shopped" with a stack of catalogs.

The breakfast my husband made was still excellent, but without the company, it was, well, kind of boring.

Divorces are rarely smooth, and I am so sorry you are going through this. If you need ANYTHING, even a vacation to a rather large house, with a rather large pool, in a rather small town in southern Georgia, let me know. And I am so glad you have your mother to help support you!

It is a difficult thing to wade through, especially when you want to fix things immediately. I had to just let time take it's course and through it all my mom never judged. She was just just there doing what she could. How could anyone ask for a better mom? Ant the fact that she has done, well, a few other thousand things to get on my favorite list, but I know what you mean.

I wish you the best.

While I'd never tell anyone that their mother isn't the best, because mine raised me right, I'll challenge anyone who thinks that my mother isn't a solid contender for Coolest Mom Ever.

Moms rock. At least my mom does. Me, I'm kind of a train wreck as a mother; but my 13YO daughter told me the other day that I am "the coolest mom, ever!" Of course, that was while we were standing in line to buy her something. She stopped speaking to me again shortly after that.

I was out of town for mother's day, and my mom passed away years ago, may she rest in peace, but happy mother's day to the mother of my babies (yesterday)!

Your mom looks awesome, Tawna.

Did I miss a cover reveal post?

My mom has always been a pillar, even when she gets on my nerves. Of course, I live overseas, so I only see her 1-2 times a year. But still, always there.

I'm a stepmom, who has, for the past 6 years, all of the fun (wry smile here) of a live-in teenage boy deep in the depths of puberty (wry smile deepens). He's a great kid but not easy at this time, monosyllabic, sarky and snarky.

Mothers Day is only for his mom, who lives 500 miles away and whose social schedule is to busy to come visit him more than 3-4 weekends a year. She gets the flowers and chocolate. Stepmoms don't count.
(Actually, it really only bothers me that my husband doesn't take the time once a year to say "thanks" for everything I do for the kid...) Sorry. End of bitchiness.

Totally off topic: Found the link below today and remembered Tawna's post about hairy cat butts. This made me think of it!

As we all learn to come with my mother's terminal illness, I find I can't remember any of the things we fought about when I was growing up.

Memories are funny that way - when you're forced to anticipate the worst in the (hopefully distant) future, you see only the best when you look back on your past.

Your mom rocks! And so do you. :)

My mom bought me books and hot fudge sundaes when I was a kid. Need I say more?

My mother and I were at each other's throats all through high school and for some time beyond. But as the years went on I came to realize that her strict rules, while unreasonable from my perspective, were implemented with only the best of intentions.

And I think she now realizes that my ongoing rebellion wasn't a personal assault on her, but me finding my own way the best way I knew how.

Years later we are good friends and can spend hours on the phone talking about everything from family to sports to politics. As a typical Pittsburgh woman, she is also a rabid Steelers fan, and taking her to the games when I make it back is about as much fun as a mother/son can have.

GO MOM!

Sometimes my mom can make me crazy, but I know what she's gone through in her life, and I understand her struggles better now that I'm an adult and a mother myself. And she's my biggest fan. I also miss my mother-in-law, who had a completely different personality from my mom and it took nearly a decade for me to figure out and feel comfortable with her. She was the smartest and selfless person I've ever met.

Thanks, Tawna, for your post, and hang in there, hon.

I'm glad your mom is there for you, Tawna. It's a blessing to have her support and love through hard times. (And I like knowing that you have this support.) That's the kind of mom I hope to be for my kids. Thanks for posting this and reminding us of how great moms are to their kids-- it's a good reminder for those of us currently mired in the early days when the kids are tiny eating-pooping machines or else 4 year old know it alls who argue with you over EVERYTHING!

I think that any Mom who can be called a rock by their kid(s) deserves the title of best mom.

I lost mine last September and still feel adrift; it's what happens when you lose your anchor and biggest fan. So Mother's Day wasn't great fun. But it's always good to know there are a lot of great mom's out there, appreciating and appreciated by their kids. That's what runs the world.
